“Clearing of dead falls and trail inspection has begun on Michigan Tech’s single track. While there are still small patches of snow on a few trails today, the forecast looks good for opening of the trails to mountain biking this weekend.

We ask, however, that you stay off the ski trails except for where the single track crosses them. The ski trails hold their snow longer and remain saturated and soft. Bike ruts down (but not across) the ski trails can instigate significant erosion.

We also ask that when you cross the occasional muddy area in the single track please ride through it, not around it, so as not to widen out the trail.

And as we request throughout the biking season, if rain makes the trail saturated again so that you are leaving significant ruts, please go home and come back when they have dried.”

We’re not the only area waiting for spring! Trek Bicycles announced today an extension of their “TrekFest” nationwide sale, until April 22, plus a few days for us to send in our rebate forms. Waiting for spring

Spring really will get here someday– the weatherman promised me. We’re doing a lot of bike tune-ups in the shop to get ready, but in the meantime, well… the crust skiing has been outstanding! I know some of you don’t want to here that but that is just the way it is right now. Go with the flow, I say. Springtime is just about the best skiing there is when it’s still below freezing, so pick your time of day and go have fun!

Trek Domane wins again

Paris-Roubaix, probably the best known 1 day classic race in the world was won this past Sunday (April 7) on the new Trek Domane road bike. Fabian Cancellara won again in convincing fashion over the rough cobbles- the bike is comfortable AND a performance bike! Trek has an entire line of Domane bikes, with a suggested starting price of $1429. We’ve got them priced at just $1,179, stop by and take one for a test ride!

The Tour of Flanders was run on Sunday with Fabian Cancellara taking the win. He won on the new Domane road bike by Trek, which was designed to give you outstanding comfort over rough surfaces (the tour of Flanders has multiple sections of old, rough cobblestone road) or even some Keweenaw roads! It also doesn’t falter on speed–Cancellara rides this bike in every race, even on smooth roads! Check them out, we have several in the store right now.
